Now that President Barack Obama has assumed the chair of the presidency, we can all give a sigh of relief. At that moment on January 20, 2009, with the words, "So help me God," many prayers were answered as we witnessed the first African-American do assume the role of the leader of the free world. But the question now becomes, "how do you support the President when it conflicts with your Christian views?"

Because President Obama represents all the people of the United States, he ran his campaign on the premise of "inclusion," as well as following the platform of the democratic party. Consequently we've already witnessed his initial action as President with Executive Orders that reflect this premise. But especially for fundamental Christians, there comes a reckoning on how far do we support the President when his positions on gay rights, abortion, separation of state & church, stem cell research, etc. appear to conflict with the traditional teachings of the Church? In his role, regardless of his 'personal' views, would he not have to uphold the Constitution of the United States in representation for all America? It was noted that in his inaugural address, there was a first when he mentioned and recognized both "Muslims" and "non-believers." Just those words caused an uproar from many conservatives and Christian believers.

Now, it is no secret that I voted, supported and campaigned for President Obama; and as I've previously stated on several occasions, I feel his election was definitely orchestrated by God as a sign to the Church that we are in a "defining moment" in time! However, I can never compromise those spiritual tenets and foundational truths that I believe & know are right! But that does not mean I can't understand his presidential position of leadership for all Americans. We must remain vigilant and pray continually for the president. Let us consider the words of the scripture (from the Message version):

"Be a good citizen. All governments are under God. Insofar as there is peace and order, it's God's order. So live responsibly as a citizen." (Romans 13:1 - Msg)

"Pray especially for rulers and their governments to rule well so we can be quietly about our business of living simply, in humble contemplation." (1 Timothy 2:2)

S. Bishop Brady,

I definitely believe that the election of our president was a definite breakthrough. America is a great nation,of the last days. America has a agenda, and a vision. But we must not get the national vision, confused with the true vision that God is producing. His ultimate vision will be accomplished...
and his Kingdom come and is at hand... Therfore when there apears to be a conflict between the secular world and the kingdom of
God. we must never compromise the truth and tenents of the faith of the living God. so there is no conflict when our true alligence is to the king of kings..... For St. Paul declares to live is Christ and to die is gain....
Even though we love our nation, and thank God for the place of our birth... but I am of a new kingdom where Jesus is the reigning king of glory. Let us pray for those who are appointed over us in the world; but remain sold out for Jesus...

Amen to the words of Greater Rock. If you go back and read my comments on the previous subject matters, you will see that I stand on the words of Daniel and King Nebuchadnezzar's, which stated God places even the bases of men in office to do his will. He placed Mr. Obama in office. President Obama is trying to govern over the ideology of the whole people of America. He has an obligation to uphold the Constitution and the laws set forth by the Supreme Court of America. My problem with President Obama views is that he is trying to make the abstract views of homosexuality a reality. Unlike Rush L and Sean H, who unconsciously have a deep seed of prejudice within them, I will pray for our President that God will open up his eyes to support the people and not their sexual preferences. President Obama has to succeed because America has to succeed. Regardless of his idiotic views, I will stand behind him as I did all the Presidents in my lifetime. Hail to the anointed king of God. As David honored the disobedient Saul, so shall I not touch God's anointed, but I will disagree with his views. There is no separation between the Church and the State in America. The government of America was started by the Church (the spiritual Church). If the government is to succeed, it much do it by the prayers of the Church. If the government of America fails, then the Church has failed. If we understand this we will keep praying for our President and we much let him and others no when they are wrong without condemning. Now is the time when the Apostolic/Pentecostal/Holiness people must cry out for unity and speak out against sin.

gittysbug, hoe can you say the government of America was founded by the spiritual church. What is your foundation? Bishop Brady I have had this discussion with many people. As you know I am a strong supporter of the President before many people was aware that he would be president. It is the church's dutyn to preach the gospel. Hopefully if the message get to the president's ear and he become convinced that God is not pleased with certain behaviour and obey Acts 2:38 wonderful. In the mean time let us pray earnestly for the President and preach the Gospel with power that will touch the whole world.

SO HELP ME GOD!!!

Re: "SO HELP ME GOD!" By gittysbug on 2/5/2009
Bishop Keith, thanks. As you well know, the Church is a spiritual entity that is known by the physical body of Christ; Us humans that accept God’s sacrifice for their sins. It is my belief through studying that God sent the British (Covenant people) to America to start a church and a country that would glorify his name. The first order that was given to Columbus was to make the natives Christians. I believe through studying that those covenant people were none other than the Isrealists that were dispersed through out the world by the Assyrians. We are that tribe called Ephraim. There is a book entitled ‘Red, White and Blue: The Issue’. Sold on bookstore websites. It is the only book that I have read that traces America’s history back to Abraham, and do it factually. After reading this book, alone with history books and the Bible, it made a believer out of me. This is why we are blessed above all other nations. Guest what, if your heritage is from Africa, you might be a biological grandchild of Abraham. God promised that he would bless Abraham seeds to become great. Not only his Seed through Isaac which is the church, but his natural seeds. Abraham had other church by a Negro woman.
